Tension over HAL Employee's Death

KORAPUT: Employees of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) staged demonstration for several hours protesting the death of a HAL worker, Daitari Swain on Saturday morning. They alleged that Swain died due to medical negligence at HAL Hospital.

Swain was admitted to the hospital for urinal infection on Friday at around 9 pm. Doctors at the hospital referred him to Visakhapatnam for specialised treatment. However, there was a delay on part of the hospital administration in sending an ambulance for shifting Swain to Visakhapatnam. By the time the ambulance brought Swain to a hospital in Visakhapatnam, he had already died.

Receiving news about the death, hundreds of employees staged demonstration in front of the HAL Hospital and demanded that the doctors and hospital staff who were on duty on Friday night be punished for negligence.

Later, president of Hind Mazdoor Sangh Lalit Dora met the HAL General Manager Debashis Dev who assured him of appointing a fact finding team to inquiry into the death of Swain. Dev said Swain’s wife would be provided job in HAL on rehabilitation ground.
