NHRC Takes Note of Payal Nag Case

BALANGIR: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought action taken reports from the collectors of Balangir and Raipur in neighbouring Chhattisgarh on the issue of rehabilitation and financial help provided to Payal Nag. The collectors have been asked to submit the reports in eight weeks.

In April, seven-year-old Payal of Jamunabahal village of Muribahal block in Balangir district lost all her four limbs in a mishap in Raipur where she had migrated with her parents. Payal lost both her legs and hands after coming in contact with a live wire at the site where her parents were working as labourers.

The incident came to light five months after the incident when the family came home for Nuakhai to their native village.
