Actress Blames Cops,Claims Innocence

BHUBANESWAR: Sonali Monalisa, who was arrested by City police about two weeks back for allegedly not paying fish-sellers and threatening them, has refuted allegations that she claimed to be wife or kin of any senior police officer.

Addressing media persons here recently, Monalisa said she is an actress and always used that identity.

On December 18, she claimed that she had gone to Unit-IV market where she had an altercation with a female vendor over the quality of fish after which the husband of the latter started hurling abuses at her. “I called the PCR after being abused by the fish sellers but police arrested me,” she said.

Monalisa said she had also lodged an FIR at Kharavela Nagar police station over the incident but the cops never took cognisance of it. She said the whole issue was orchestrated and a group of fish vendors surrounded her SUV and forced her to come out of the vehicle.

The actress claimed that her maid was restrained by the vendors while her four-year-old son was traumatised after being confined in the vehicle during the melee. Despite reporting the matter to the police, Monalisa said no action was taken.
