ROURKELA: After battling for life at the Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) for three days, the 45-year-old gangrape victim of Bhawanipur slum here succumbed while being shifted to VSS Medical at Burla on Wednesday evening.
The gangrape took place on Sunday night when the woman left her house following a quarrel with her husband.
Finding her alone near the railway tracks, Raju Mukhi, Japani Munda and Thudu Gope, all belonging to Bhawanipur slum, committed the crime. The three, who have been arrested, admitted to have raped her and pounded her head when she protested. She was rescued by police in an unconscious state on Monday. The body was handed over to her family after post-mortem.
Rourkela SP Anirudh Singh said the case of attempt to murder would be converted to murder along with additional charge of gangrape.
