BHUBANESWAR: The woman police officer, who had allegedly abused auto-rickshaw driver Sivaram Swain on Saturday night, was suspended by Police Commissioner RP Sharma here on Monday.
A report of the high-handedness of the police officer was published in Express on Monday. The punitive order was issued against sub-inspector Suchismita Das with immediate effect following an inquiry ordered by Sharma into the incident.
Das on Sunday night had refused to register the complaint of two girls who were trafficked from Bhadrak and later molested by a labour contractor for more than four days.
The girls were brought to the Capital by contractor Deepak Subudhi promising them employment. Subudhi later held them captive at an undisclosed location in Tamando and molested them on multiple occasions.
The victims somehow managed to escape from Subudhi’s clutches and met Swain near Baramunda petrol pump. After hearing their ordeal, Swain drove the victims to Mahila police station.
After they reached the police station, Das started arguing with Swain and slapped him, the auto driver had alleged.
While Das was suspended for dereliction of duty, police arrested Subudhi and produced him in the court.
