BARGARH:Town police on Wednesday seized 1.04 quintals of hemp and arrested four persons.
On a tip-off that the accused were smuggling hemp from Baliguda to Sarangarh in Chhattisgarh in a car, police intercepted the vehicle at Veer Chowk on NH-6 and seized the narcotic. The accused are Bijay Ranjan Sahu, Sanyasi Sahu, Prafulla Sahu and driver of the vehicle Manas Sahani. They were remanded in judicial custody.
Berhampur: Excise sleuths on Wednesday seized 90 kgs of hemp and arrested Sisir Mishra of Goudagaon village in Ganjam district. The seized contraband is worth Rs four lakh.
On a tip-off, Excise team led by Inspector Gangadhar Nayak intercepted a car coming from Digapahandi on Aska road and seized the narcotic substance. A case has been registered.
Jeypore: About 110 kg of hemp was seized from a four-wheeler near Champakupuli here on Wednesday.
Sources said unidentified persons were smuggling hemp from Malkangiri to neighbouring Chhattisgarh when police stopped the vehicle and seized the contraband. The smugglers managed to flee.
