Supervisor Injured in Firing

JAGATSINGHPUR: A supervisor of a construction agency was injured after some local goons fired at him for refusing to give in to their extortion demand here on Tuesday.

The injured supervisor, identified as Subasish Ray of Andhoti under Andhoti police limits, was engaged by the construction agency to execute the contract for laying village roads under Pradhan Mantri Gramya Sadak Yojana from Toatapatana to Ghodansa villages under Naugaon block.

Sources said two miscreants reached the camp office of the construction agency on a motorcycle. They demanded Rs 50,000 and mobile phone number from Ray. When he refused to meet their demands, the miscreants fired two rounds at Ray and fled. Some workers rushed a heavily bleeding Ray to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack. Naugaon police led by IIC Manoranjan Chaudhary rushed to spot and started investigation. Chaudhary said the cell of an used cartridge has been seized from the spot and all routes have been sealed to nab the culprits.
