RD Students Thank CM for Varsity Status

BHUBANESWAR: More than 300 students of Ramadevi (RD) Women’s Autonomous College on Saturday met Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and expressed gratitude for proposing the college’s name to Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) for university status. The State Government’s proposal to accord university status to RD College was accepted by RUSA recently.

The students took out a rally from Forest Park to Naveen Nivas and met the Chief Minister at his residence. Students’ union president Swosti Priya Dasnayak said the announcement of the university status was a new year gift for them. Representatives of other women’s colleges also participated in the rally.

Sources said the college authorities have begun working on finalising the formalities required to register as a university. In addition to issuing its own certificates, the college will also add eight new post-graduate courses to its existing programmes. New self-financing courses are also expected to be introduced.
