Upper Kolab Water Released for Rabi Crop

JEYPORE: The Upper Kolab authorities on Tuesday released water for irrigating rabi crops. The irrigation water supply to ayacut areas was delayed by almost 10 days due to defects in the canal system.

Though the supply of water was to start from December 25 it got delayed due to damages in the canal system.

As per the guidelines of the Water Resources Department, the Upper Kolab project officials had decided to supply water to irrigate about 25,000 hectares of land in Jeypore, Kotpad and Borrigumma pockets after a discussion with pani panchayat officials.

After all the damages were repaired, the sluice gates were opened for irrigation in ayacut areas on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Upper Kolab Project Chief Construction Engineer MR Shukla has directed the field staff to monitor the water supply up to the tail points.
