SAMBALPUR: The Head of the Post-graduate Department of History of the Sambalpur University, Dr K N Sethi, was arrested by the police on Thursday on charges of molesting a minor girl.

The incident came to light after the victim’s father, who is a colleague of the accused Reader, lodged a complaint with the Burla police on Wednesday. The 13-year-old girl was allegedly molested on January 4 when she was alone in her house.

Vice-Chancellor of Sambalpur University, Prof C R Tripathy, however, refrained from making any comment on the issue and said that the police had taken up the matter.

The incident sparked sharp reaction among the students, who burnt Sethi’s effigy on the varsity premises.

Sethi was forwarded to the court under Section 376, 511 of IPC. His bail plea has been rejected.

Sethi, however, refuted the allegation and said that  truth would come out after the investigation.
