Pipili Gangrape: Dismissed OIC to be Quizzed

BHUBANESWAR: Justice P K Mohanty Commission of Inquiry into the 2011 Pipili gangrape and murder case on Saturday issued notice to dismissed police inspector Amulya Kumar Champatiray asking him to depose before it on February 7 for cross-examination.

Champatiray was officer in-charge of Pipili police station when the incident took place in November 2011 and had initially refused to register a case when the victim's father Babuli Behera informed him.

He was, however, suspended and subsequently dismissed from service in 2012. Allowing a petition by Behera's lawyer Nishikant Mishra, the Commission felt it necessary to cross examine Champatiray. Three witnesses of Champatiray had already been cross-examined in July last year.
