BALASORE: A youth was arrested by Basta police in the district on Thursday night on the charges of forcing a teenaged tribal boy and girl to have sex and circulating the video of the act.
Though the date of the incident is not known, the matter came to light after the video was circulated through MMS in November last year. A local lawyer, who came across the MMS, informed Basta and Rupsa police but, they did not register a case.
On November 24, the lawyer met ADG of Crime Branch BK Sharma during a training session of Government advocates at Cuttack and informed him about the case. On suggestion of Sharma, the lawyer lodged a written complaint with Cyber Cell of the Crime Branch which directed Balasore SP to investigate the case.On the direction of Cyber Cell on January 6, local police arrested the youth identified as Smruti Ranjan Jena.
Sources said two youths had forced the tribal boy and girl to have sex and recorded the act after physically assaulting and threatening them with dire consequences. While Jena was produced in the court and remanded in judicial custody, efforts were on to arrest the other accused.
