RDA Notice to Building Plan Violators

ROURKELA: The Rourkela Development Authority (RDA) has identified 43 unauthorised multi-storey commercial and residential buildings in the city and slapped notices on the owners of five buildings for violating planning norms.

Sources said notices were served on December 31, 2014 and the building owners concerned were asked to take corrective measures like demolishing the illegal structures on their own within a month or face action. Miscellaneous cases were filed against them between 2009 and 2013.

One of the five private owners who was  issued notice has moved the Commissioner, Housing and Urban Development Department, seeking his intervention into the matter.

The petitioner has been asked to demolish building structures above 10 metres. Though he has approval for a double-storey commercial-cum-residential building, he constructed seven floors.

Rourkela ADM and RDA Secretary K Sudershan Chakravorty said notices were served in accordance with the guidelines. The RDA is in the process of identifying more unauthorised multi-storey buildings and action will be initiated accordingly.

RDA sources said since 1997, about 2,400 cases have been registered for flouting planning norms and 1,600 cases are pending.
