DC Case: No Response from Chitra on Summon

BHUBANESWAR: The Police Commissionerate has decided to send a second summon to Mumbai-based airline cabin crew Chitra Athwani to probe into her links with Deccan Chronicle (DC) group vice-chairman PK Iyer who was arrested from a city hotel on June 7.

Athwani did not depose before the police nor respond to a summon which was issued to her on June 16. The summon was issued in her native address at Darbhanga in Bihar as registered in the hotel record.

The 15 days’ time given to her to respond expired on Tuesday. “As the summon will expire in a day, we will give her another opportunity to appear and clarify her stand.

If she fails to turn up this time, an arrest warrant will be issued in her name,” Police Commissioner Dr RP Sharma said.

Iyer, an accused in a multi-hundred crore bank loan fraud, was staying in the hotel room which was booked in Athwani’s name. Police investigation revealed that both Athwani and Iyer had stayed together in the hotel for 10 days after which she left the city.

However, the DC group vice-chairman continued to stay in the same room till he was arrested.
