SUNDARGARH: A woman labourer, Sukanti Naik (40), was killed on Thursday after her saree got stuck in a concrete mixture machine at a road construction site under Dharuadihi police limits in Sadar block of Sundargarh district.
IIC of Dharuadihi police station Anjalina Mohanty said the incident occurred at 12 noon when labourers were engaged in construction of a road culvert on the Amasranga road.
The IIC said saree of the victim got stuck in the running machine and she was dragged into the cog wheels.
As a result, her stomach was crushed and she died on the spot.
The site supervisor has been detained on charges of negligence of duty.
Villagers resorted to agitation following the incident. Normalcy was restored after the contractor agreed to pay compensation of `40,000 to the woman’s family.
