JAJPUR: A woman committed suicide after giving poison to her two-year-old ailing son on Thursday night as her husband reportedly refused to take the child to hospital in Korabandi village under Korei police limits in Jajpur district on Thursday night.
While the woman, Rosalin Malik, died on way to a local hospital, her son Dibyanshu is battling for life at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, police said on Friday.
According to police, Rosalin picked up a fight with her husband Deepak over taking Dibyanshu to a doctor for check-up. While Deepak told her that they would consult a doctor next morning, she wanted to go immediately.
After the altercation, Deepak left home in a huff and an annoyed Rosalin gave pesticide to her son and she too consumed it. On hearing Dibyanshu’s cry, Rosalin’s eight-year-old son rushed to the room to find the two frothing and screamed for help. Their neighbours rushed them to Government Hospital at Jajpur Road, police said.
While the woman was declared brought dead at the hospital, her son was shifted to SCBMCH in a critical condition. Deepak and Rosalin are married for 10 years and have two sons.
