DC Case: Athwani 'Unable' to Depose

BHUBANESWAR: Chitra Athwani, a member of Mumbai-based airline cabin crew, who was summoned by Commissionerate of Police in connection with Deccan Chronicle (DC) vice-chairman PK Iyer’s arrest, has expressed her inability to depose before the police over health issues on Saturday.

In a reply to the second summon which was issued on Wednesday, Athwani stated that she sustained an injury due to a minor accident at home. She has sent a letter, attached with a medical certificate, to Nayapalli police.

On June 30, Athwani was issued first summon which she had dishonoured, police sources said.

Iyer, an accused in a multi-hundred crore bank loan fraud, was arrested by Commissionerate Police on June 7 from a five star hotel in the city. He was found to have boarded a hotel room which was booked in Athwani’s name. Iyer was handed over to the CBI which is probing into the bank fraud.

Commissionerate of Police is investigating into the links of Athwani and Iyer in this case.
