Style, Luxury in Store for Babu Houses

BHUBANESWAR: The mundane life of 'babus' of Odisha Government in the decades-old worn-out residential colonies will soon give way to style and luxury. Gym, spa and 24X7 surveillance are what the State Government is mulling to provide them in a residential tower which is being planned in Unit II area of the City.

The 11-storey tower, on a built-up space of 1.5 lakh sq ft, is meant for senior Government officials and estimated at about Rs 73 crore.

The State Government, which has been working on the project for the last three years, has incorporated lifestyle facilities such as gym and spa at an estimated Rs 38 lakh. Besides, for security measures, CCTV and video distribution systems are also proposed for the multi-storey residential apartment.

It would be fitted with solar panels on the rooftop for supplementing energy needs of the building. The flooring, proposed to be done with stones and tiles, is proposed at Rs 1.7 crore.

The Chief Engineer (Buildings) has submitted a detailed estimate of the building before the Engineer-in-Chief in this connection. The estimations for different aspects of the projects have been done as per the National Building Construction Corporation provisions.

Since the project is being fine-tuned by the Works Department, it has witnessed a cost escalation over the last three years.
