Youth Shot by group of eight Miscreants

BERHAMPUR: A youth Balaram Bhuiyan (25) was shot at by a group of eight miscreants at Kaindi village under Bhanjanagar police limits on Wednesday evening. He was admitted to Bhanjanagar Hospital and later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here after his condition deteriorated.

Police said Balaram was returning from Bhanjanagar to his home when the miscreants on motorcycles intercepted him. When Bhuiyan stopped, one of the miscreants shot five rounds at him. Balaram received bullet injuries in his shoulder and arm. As locals rushed on hearing the sound, the miscreants fled from the spot.

Bhanjanagar Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Aswini Sahu said the attack was a fallout of past enmity. Search is on to nab the attackers.

Of late, such cases have increased in the district despite round-the-clock police patrolling. Earlier in May, two youths from Bihar were shot dead in broad daylight near Lanjipali overbridge in Baidyanathpur area in Berhampur.

The killings were the result of a tussle for supremacy between two criminal gangs in the district.
