DC Case: Cops to Leave for Darbhanga

BHUBANESWAR:Police Commissionerate of the Twin City has decided to send a team to Darbhanga district in Bihar to record the statement of Chitra Athwani, whose name surfaced during the arrest of ‘Deccan Chronicle’ vice-president PK Iyer.

 The Nayapalli police has so far issued two summons in Chitra’s name. In her response to the second summon, Chitra claimed to have sustained a leg injury due to which she could not depose before the police.

 Chitra, a native of Darbhanga, is an employee with a private airline, sources said.

 “We are investigating whether there was an impersonation while booking the hotel room from where Iyer was arrested,” Police Commissioner RP Sharma said.

 Iyer, an accused in a Rs 357 crore bank loan fraud, was arrested by the police on June 6 from a five-star hotel here and handed over to the CBI. He was staying in a room at the hotel which was booked in Chitra’s name.
