Roads in Industrial Towns Replete with Potholes

ANGUL:The roads in Angul and Talcher remain in perennially damaged condition. While some are incomplete, others are potholed, making commuting a nightmarish experience for people of both the places.

Worse, repair of the roads by the Roads and Building wing of Rural Development Department is moving at a snail’s pace.

BJP leader Jajati Pattnaik said roads in Talcher including the three-km Handidhua-Post Office Road are lying incomplete even as construction was started long time back. Similarly, Remuan to MH-149 road is yet to be completed. Although some portion of the road from Talcher bus stand to Talcher Hospital was completed a few days back, it is now dotted with potholes.

Despite several reminders to the authorities concerned, nothing has been done to repair the roads.

In Angul, repair of the road behind Jagannath temple was taken up several months back but has not been completed even as the monsoon has arrived. Locals said the dilapidated road will pose problems during the ensuing Rath Yatra.

When contacted, Executive Engineer of Roads and Building wing B Padhi said the road works are being taken up and would be completed soon.
