Rivers Swell in Jharsuguda

JHARSUGUDA: The flood situation continues to be grim in Jharsuguda. Water level in Bheden and Ib rivers have increased due to heavy rains in the last two days. The district received 66.64 mm and 118 mm rainfall on Friday and Saturday respectively.

Official sources said there was 110 mm, 109mm, 126mm, 155 mm rainfall at Jharsuguda, Kulabira, Laikera and Kirimira blocks respectively in the last 36 hours.

As many as 20 families of Talapatia village under Jharsuguda block were shifted to a relief centre on Saturday after water from river Ib entered the village. Free kitchen service has been started for 70 affected families of the block. Owing to the floods, plying of trains through Jharsuguda railway station has been stopped.

Jharsuguda Tehsildar Bhawesh Kumar Nayak said all efforts are being made to provide relief to the affected families.
