BARGARH: Four persons of a family were arrested by Bargarh police on charges of setting a pregnant woman on fire resulting in her death.
The victim, Sarojini Naik of Patikarpalli village under Bhatli police limits in Bargarh district was seven months pregnant with her first child when she suffered burn injuries on July 2 and was admitted to VIMSAR, Burla where she succumbed to her injuries on July 13.
Sarojini was married to Dilip about a year back, said her father Suresh Ghadei. Ghadei lodged a complaint with police accusing the Naik family of burning his daughter over dowry demand. He alleged that they had doused his daughter with kerosene before setting her on fire. Acting on the complaint, police arrested Dilip, his parents and grandfather.
The arrested are Dilip Naik, his mother Kandri, father Chelia and grandfather Jatia.
