Varsity Status Attracts More Aspirants for GM

Application forms for both PG and Graduate courses have doubled compared to last year

SAMBALPUR:The university status has been instrumental in attracting more students for the prestigious Gangadhar Meher University.

This year, 3034 application forms have been received by the university for admission to 512 seats in 17 post-graduate (PG) departments against 1600 forms in the last academic session.

The highest number of 357 forms was submitted for admission into Physics course followed by 351 for Chemistry. Both the departments have 16 seats each. The Zoology and Botany departments received 337 and 256 forms respectively for 16 seats each.

Similarly, 255 applicants are aspiring to get admission to the PG Department of Mathematics having 40 seats while 52 applications forms have been received for 16 seats in the Department of Computer Science.

The situation is equally encouraging in Commerce department where 319 applicants are vying for 48 seats. Besides, the university has received 162 application forms for 32 seats in  Political Science, 143 for 64 seats in History, 107 for 48 seats in Economics, 182 for 40 seats in Education, 130 for 32 seats in English, 120 for 16 seats in PG department of Odia and 109 application forms for 48 seats in Sanskrit.

As far as Plus Three is concerned, the university has got 4148 application forms this year for 1132 seats in 19 under-graduate departments. There are 492 seats in Arts, 384 seats in Commerce and 256 seats in Science streams. Around 2600 forms were received for under-graduate courses last year.

Director, Academics of the University, UC Pati said university status of the institution is one of the major reasons behind the substantial increase in the number of application forms. He said quality teaching, A-grade NAAC rating, recent development in infrastructure and location of the institution are also attracting students.

The first selection list for admission to the under-graduate courses and PG courses will be published on July 22 and July 24 respectively while the admission process will begin on July 28, he informed.
