Robbers Decamp With Cash, Gold in Cuttack

CUTTACK: A gang of robbers barged into the house of a cinema hall owner at Madhupatna in the city on Saturday night and decamped with `5 lakh in cash and gold ornaments weighing around 200 grams.

The incident occurred at 3.30 am when the miscreants broke into the house of Jasobant Narayan Debata by cutting window grills of the bedroom. They threatened Debata and his wife with sharp weapons and asked them to hand over cash and valuables. After collecting the booty, the miscreants tied the couple with ropes and fled, police said.

Debata’s son, who was asleep in another room, rescued his parents after the robbers left. Cuttack DCP Sanjeev Arora, who rushed to the spot in wee hours of Sunday, said there were seven members in the gang and most of them were conversing in Telugu.

Debata, in his complaint, mentioned that a few days back, he had engaged construction workers for renovation of his house. “Preliminary investigation revealed that all of them were Telugu speaking people. So, we suspect role of the labourers in the crime,” Arora said.

A case was registered in this connection at Madhupatna police station and further investigation is on.
