Case against Villagers for Daru Trouble

SALEPUR: Cuttack Sadar police on Monday registered a case against 100 villagers of Bhanapur for creating disturbance during the journey of ‘Sagadi’ carrying the Daru of Lord Jagannath to Puri on Saturday night.

According to police, the villagers intercepted the Sagadi near Bhanapur demanding that the Banajagis halt in their village instead of Pratapnagari, where they put up at night. When the Banajagis insisted on following the schedule, the villagers misbehaved and prevented people from pulling the cart.

When police intervened, the villagers pelted stones, injuring seven police personnel including DCP Sanjeev Arora.

Taking suo motu action, police filed a case against the villagers. However, no one has been arrested.
