TALCHER:Two executives of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) were arrested on charges of assaulting a worker in the Ananta coalmine of the company on Monday night. The accused are RR Jadav and Arabinda Malla.

The colliery worker Dillip Samal registered a complaint at the Colliery police station that he was severely assaulted by Jadav and Malla for coming late to work on Monday.

Following the incident, workers led by trade unions ceased work at the coalmine and also locked the two officials in an office room. They demanded immediate suspension of the officials. Police rescued them in the night.

Even as the MCL management tried to persuade the workers to call off the cease work, they refused to budge.
