Miscreants Open Fire at Rly Officer

BHUBANESWAR: Three bike-borne miscreants on Saturday fired at a senior railway official at Shree Vihar in Patia here, in what seemed to be a case of threatening the officer and not harming him.

When the officer, Joint General Manager of Rail Vikash Nigam Limited (RVNL) Ajay Kumar, was on returning home, three unidentified miscreants intercepted his car. The miscreants asked the driver to open the doors but when he denied, they dared Kumar to open the windshield else face the consequences.

Accordingly, Kumar rolled down the window glass and queried about the issue. The trio started abusing him and asked him to take a transfer from the State. During this time, one of them fired at Kumar, which missed his left leg and got embedded in the seat. Before fleeing, they threatened the official with dire consequences if he did not leave the State.

As the news spread, police rushed to the spot and seized an empty bullet case from the car. Kumar joined RVNL here about a year-and-half ago.

A senior police official said, tender fixing could be a cause behind the incident and the miscreants did not intend to hurt but scare the railway official. A case has been registered and manhunt launched for the three accused, police said.
