Production Stopped at Steel Plant

JAIPUR: The Department of Factories and Boilers on Saturday imposed a ban on production at Tata Steel Plant in Kalinga Nagar in the wake of explosion at dry pit of the blast furnace on Friday. Four contract workers had sustained injuries.

Assistant Director of the department, Jajpur division, Kedarnath Hansda visited the plant on Saturday and ordered for halt in production till normalcy is restored in the plant.

As per preliminary investigation, temperature inside the two pipes in which molten iron passes is maintained at 2,000 degrees Celsius. The pipes are protected by metal walls. The walls exploded after water fell on the two pipes leading to a breach in the protective wall in dry pit No. 4 of the blast furnace at about 1.10 pm on Friday, said Hansda.
