Jagamohan Repair Work to Resume on Monday

PURI: The ongoing repair works in Jagamohan of Jagannath temple had to be stopped here on Friday owing to a technical problem.

The Jagamohan roof spans across three layers of stone. While the first layer comprised granite, the other two layers were of Khondalite and sandstone. In the morning, ASI officials had started drilling a pillar to fix steel poles. As per the technical plan, three steel poles would be fixed near each pillar to support the roof and steel beams would be fixed alongside the existing beams.

After drilling the portion up to 2.5 feet, the drilling machine developed snag when it reached the granite level. Subsequently, work had to be stopped. ASI Superintending Engineer H Naik informed that drilling would be resumed on Monday when the wall would be drilled up to five feet.

G C Mitra, chairman of the technical committee, engineers D P Mishra and Bindhewar Patra were present.
