VCs Appointed in Three New State Universities

BHUBANESWAR: The three Officers on Special Duty (OSDs) for Rama Devi Women’s University, Khallikote Cluster University and Gangadhar Meher University have been appointed as Vice-Chancellors (VCs) of the institutions. Odisha Governor SC Jamir, who is also the Chancellor of Universities, gave his nod to the appointments on Wednesday.

The VCs are Padmaja Mishra for Rama Devi Women’s University, Manmath Padhi for Khallikote Cluster University and Sambalpur University’s former registrar Sudhanshu Sekhar Rath for Gangadhar Meher University. Last year, after the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) announced formation of three new universities in Odisha under the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), the Higher Education Department had appointed the three academicians as OSDs. They will hold the position for a period of one year.

The new VC of Rama Devi Women’s University said there are plans to introduce more job-oriented courses from the new academic session. But, space and infrastructure continue to be the biggest constraint. “Creating new infrastructure within the campus to accommodate more students will take at least two years,” Mishra said.
