Dacoit gang busted, 4 held

CUTTACK: Salepur police busted a dacoit gang and arrested all its four members on Sunday. The gang was indulged in hawking in the day time and ransacking houses during the night in different localities of the district.

Police recovered a pistol, six swords, two antique spears which were looted from Salepur museum, five gold rings, one LCD TV, a Laptop, a printer and 16 mobile phones from their possession.

The arrested are kingpin Nirendra Swain, Suryakant Acharya and Rakesh Swain of Machhuati Balisahi under Salepur police station and Durga Prasad Rao of Andhra Pradesh.

Police said some miscreants had stolen precious arms and weapons of the British era from Salepur museum on July 21 night. Narendra Behera, watchman of the museum had filed an FIR in this regard. Acting on the FIR, police arrested all the four members of the gang.

The arrested persons have confessed to have committed theft and robbery in different localities under Salepur, Mahanga and Nischintakoili police limits.

During interrogation, the accused confessed that during day time, they engaged in hawking used clothes and collected information about the house which they targeted in the night.
