BERHAMPUR: Hundreds of fishes were found dead in a pond close to Grasim Industries Ltd on Tuesday, three days after 25 MT of Caustic Soda from the plant tank leaked into the water body.  The Chhatrapur Sub-Collector visited the spot and the plant authorities assured him that there was nothing to worry as all precautionary measures have been taken to prevent pollution of water bodies.

However, locals said harmful chemicals of the pond might have flowed into river Rushikulya following heavy rains on Sunday. Many people use the river water for their daily chores.

Locals urged the district administration to send samples of both the pond and the river for test.
