Administration to Take up Potteru Canal Lining Work in February

MALKANGIRI:The canal lining work for Potteru irrigation project in the district will be undertaken in February to ensure smooth flow of water till the tail-end.

Speaking during the celebration of Pani Panchayat Fortnight at Surlikonda Barrage in Balimela, Chief Construction Engineer of the project Harshabardhan Mohanty said proper management of water supply is the need of the hour to ensure sufficient water supply for agriculture purposes.

Balimela power house outlet generates 130 mw energy and the discharged water can be utilised for agricultural purposes by supplying it to the farming lands through Gompaknda and Tamasa main canals, he added. Similarly, the storage capacity of Surlikonda Barrage will be increased by expanding the water body which would meet the crisis situation where there is less discharge of water from Balimela power house outlet, he informed.

Executive Engineer, Potteru Irrigation Division, Binod Bihari Mishra urged the office bearers of Pani Panchayats to ensure proper management of water supply.
