SALEPUR: A day after the Biju Setu over river Govari at Kanhupur collapsed, the contractor began dismantling the span of the bridge on Sunday. As per the direction of the Rural Development Department, the labourers used breakers to pull down the concrete cast. Fresh centring and shuttering is expected to commence on Monday, informed Junior Engineer, Mahanga RD section, Manas Chaudhury.
Meanwhile, Mahanga Bikash Parishad demanded a high level inquiry into the incident. They sought stern action against the contractor and also Rural Development Department officials concerned.
Parishad president Sarada Pradhan threatened to gherao Governor’s house and knock at the doors of court if no action is taken at the earliest.
