ROURKELA: A constable of Baunsjor police outpost in Jharkhand was arrested on charges of rape and murder of his lady love. The woman’s beheaded body was recovered from Kapilas area of Birmitrapur police limits in Sundargarh district on Thursday.
The accused has been identified as Jitendra Oram (25) of Baunsjor under Jaldega police limits in Simdega district of Jharkhand.
Police said the 23-year-old victim of Hatia was allegedly in a relationship with the accused constable and had visited him at Baunsjor on February 1 while Oram was looking to get rid of her.
On the fateful night, he throttled the woman to death at a vacant quarter near Baunsjor outpost. Later, he carried the body to Kapilas area of Odisha and beheaded it.
However, Oram narrated the incident before a colleague leading to his arrest.
Simdega SP Rajiv Ranjan Singh said with help of Birmitarpur police of Odisha, they seized the beheaded body from an isolated mining area near Kapilas.
Later, Oram led the police to recover the blood stained clothes of the woman and a hoe used in the crime from Baunsjor. The accused would be produced before Simdega court on Friday.
