'Crorepati' Assistant Engineer in Vigilance Net

BALANGIR: Vigilance sleuths on Friday swooped down on the office and residences of assistant engineer Banchhabata Pandey in Deogaon block of the district and detected property over `1.41 crore, disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The establishments which were searched simultaneously include his house at Shantipada under Balangir Town police limits, house at Badheimunda under Jharsuguda police limits, another house at Dang village under Bargarh Town police limits, office chamber on the premises of  Block Development Officer, Deogaon, paternal house in Dunguri and Dhipapada under Ambabhona police limits in Bargarh district, his brother's house near Badheimunda Chowk, Jharsuguda, houses of his brothers-in-law Sriranjan Seth and Manoranjan Seth in Bargaon under Dhama police limits in Sambalpur.

The immovable assets of Pandey include a  double storey building in Jharsuguda Town, a single storey building at Dang and at Larkipali in Balangir. The total assets have been estimated at `85,96,173. 

He had also purchased seven plots in Jharsuguda, Dang, Balangir besides  Ghangapatna at Bhubaneswar and agriculture land at Raisobha village in Bargarh district which are worth `16,45,211.

Pandey was also found to possess cash 6,60,836.

He had also deposits in different banks and investment in various Insurance Companies in his name and that of his family members. Searches were on till the report was filed.
