Children Worship Parents on Valentine’s Day

Children worshipped their parents on the occasion of Valentine’s Day at Hanuman Vatika complex here on Sunday. The event, ‘Matri Pitri Pujan’, was organised by Rourkela unit of Yog Vedant Seva Samiti to desist youngsters from celebrating Valentine’s Day. Hundreds of children participated in the event. Organisers said it was aimed at instilling morality among the children and keeping them away from ‘Western Culture’. Sources said Bajrang Dal activists in groups scoured through all parks, temples and secluded locations in search of couples. However, no unpleasant incident was reported with police deployment at public locations.

Berhampur

Ganja Seized, 4 Arrested

Four members of an inter-State gang of Chhattisgarh were arrested by Phiringia police in Kandhamal and 75 kg of ganja seized from them on Sunday. Phiringia police OIC Dhiren Behera said that during regular patrolling, police found the four persons trying to speed away on Phiringia-Baliguda road. Suspecting foul play, police intercepted the vehicle at Dabarabali Chowk and during search, they found the contraband stocked inside the vehicle. They are Sekhar Prasad Yadav (32), Dayasagar Yadav (35), Rajkumar Yadav (32) and Banamali Yadav (23), all of them belonging to Chhattisgarh. They have been forwarded to court.

Classroom Inaugurated

A classroom of Kesaripalli Primary School in Aska block of Ganjam district was inaugurated by Aska MLA Debraj Mohanty on Sunday. The classroom has been built at a cost of `15 lakh. School headmaster B Panda presided over the inaugural meeting and prizes were distributed to students who won in various competitions held on the occasion.

Liquor Seized

Aska Police seized six gunny sacks of illicit liquor sachets from an autorickshaw here on Sunday. Aska IIC Baleswar Gidhi said that during patrolling, police found the vehicle parked on the Main Road. Autorickshaw driver Pramod Kumar Barik of Babanpur has been arrested.

BJD, Cong Meetings

Commerce and Transport Minister Ramesh Majhi and Nabarangpur MLA Manohar Randhari were felicitated by district unit BJD leaders and workers at a function held here on Sunday. Majhi was felicitated for becoming the district party president for the second time and Randhari for being elected as the chairman of district planning committee. In another event, a meeting was organised by Nabarangpur District Congress Committee on Sunday to observe the first death anniversary of former legislator of Nabarangpur Habibulla Khan. Dabugam MLA Bhujabal Majhi, former legislator Sadan Naik and former Zilla Parishad president Manjula Majhi spoke.

NTPC ER-II Adjudged Best

The eastern region-II of power major National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) was adjudged as the best performer among the total nine regions of the power utility for 2014-15. The region was ranked third in 2013-14. The performance index was announced recently by the officials of NTPC. The eastern region-II stood first among the coal-fired stations of NTPC having achieved 90.67 per cent plant load. The performance was measured under the parameters of financial transactions, CSR activities, project works and operations. The eastern region of NTPC has two operating power stations while two others are under construction.
