BARGARH :A BJP delegation, led by national BJP general secretaries Arun Singh and Suresh Pujari, and State BJP president Basant Panda, on Wednesday felicitated woman farmer Rambai Das in Jamurda of Bargarh block for her success in agriculture and invited her to Kisaan Sammelan, which will be held on February 21.
Sources said the BJP is planning to felicitate Rambai, similar to ASHA worker Jamunamani Singh of Balasore, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Sammelan. An illiterate, 37-year-old Rambai was married at an early age of 16 years. After she gave birth to two girl children, Rambai was thrown out of her house by her husband. Instead of giving up, she fought back and with support of her mother, Umabati, she took land on lease and started cultivation.
Arun Singh assured her that she will be covered under Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana and Atal Pension Yojana.
Rambai was felicitated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik during the farmers’ convention at Sohela on November 19.
