Houses Set Ablaze

Six houses were set ablaze over past enmity at Alanda village under Nimapara police limits here on Tuesday. As many as 20 quintals of paddy, three quintals of rice and other household items were gutted. Police said Chhitaranjan Barik had differences with other villagers, who set Barik’s house on fire. A case has been registered.

Congmen Stage Dharna

Alleging gross irregularities in various development works of Nimapara Assembly Constituency, Congress workers staged a dharna in front of Tehsil office here on Wednesday. They submitted four-point charter of demands to the Collector, Puri through Tehsildar, Nimapara. Their demands include construction of PWD inspection bungalow, Panchayat Samiti building and vigilance audit in illegal running of saw mills.

Stir against Corruption

Protesting gross irregularities and corruption in providing health service and utilisation of fund under Rogi Kalyan Samiti, residents of Nischintakoili block on Wednesday staged a dharna in front of the Community Health Centre over their demands. The dharna was withdrawn after ADMO, Cuttack, Dr Ramesh Chandra Panda assured to look into the matter. Their demands include free medicine to poor patients, adequate bed and diet.

Two Held for molesting girl

Two persons were on Wednesday arrested by Olatpur police on charges of molesting and attempting to kidnap a Class IX girl of Barahipur village. The arrested are Narendra Singh and Uday Nath Swain of the village. The girl was returning home with her friends when the miscreants chased them on Tuesday. The accused persons molested and tried to kidnap her. Following an FIR filed by the girl’s mother, police arrested the duo and sent them to judicial custody.

One Killed in Road Mishap

Harish Chandra Bhatta (42) of Bhanapur village died after a bus hit his motorcycle on NH-5 near Dahaliabaga under Cuttack Sadar police limits here on Wednesday. Bhatta was going to Bhubaneswar when the accident took place. He was rushed to SCBMCH where he succumbed.
