Engineer's Houses Raided, Rs 1.18 Crore Assets Unearthed

BHUBANESWAR: The Vigilance Department on Friday conducted raids on residential houses of an Assistant Engineer of the State Government in a disproportionate assets case and detected properties worth Rs 1.18 crore.

According to Vigilance sources, simultaneous raids were carried out on the residential premises of Sudhansu Kumar Sahoo who is employed with the Puri R&B Division as an Assistant Engineer.

Sahoo started his career in Works Department as a Junior Engineer (JE) in 1987 and was posted to Odisha State Housing Board on deputation at Bhubaneswar, Berhampur and Puri from 1987 to 1996. He was promoted to the rank of Assistant Engineer in 2013 and was again posted to Puri R&B Division.

During the search, a three-BHK flat at BJB Nagar worth Rs 35 lakh, a two-storey building at Sarvodaya Nagar, Puri estimated at Rs 15 lakh, investment of Rs 17 lakh in a Duplex house at Tankapani Road, household articles worth Rs 4 lakh, 663 grams of gold ornaments worth Rs 16 lakh, 155 grams of silver ornaments, Rs 50,850 in cash, bank and postal deposits of Rs 22 lakh were unearthed, Bhubaneswar Vigilance Division SP Basant Panigrahi said.

The total assets worth Rs 1.18 crore have been detected during the searches. The Assistant Engineer is alleged to have amassed the properties by unfair means. The enquiry is on, Panigrahi added.
