Immersion of Medhas halted for second day

CUTTACK: With no end to the dispute between Pithapur Nuasahi and Jhola Sahi Puja Committees in sight, immersion of Medhas could not take place for second day on Thursday.

Tension continued to prevail in the locality after the group clash between residents of two Sahis on Wednesday. Police prevented both Puja Committees from taking out immersion procession apprehending further flare ups.

A meeting was convened between local heads and members of Cuttack Mahanagar Shanti Committee on Wednesday night for an amicable settlement of the dispute but in vain. Police have convened another meeting to resolve the dispute.

“We are hopeful of making an amicable settlement after which the two Puja Committees will be allowed to take out  immersion procession,” said ACP Anil Mishra.

So far, 122 idols of Goddess Durga and Hara-Parbati have been immersed by Thursday evening in the three artificial ponds set up at Devi Gada in the Millennium City.
