BHUBANESWAR: “Ame Janiba Ama Jami Adhikar’ (know your land rights), a State-wide campaign was launched in three districts of the State on the occasion of International Day of Rural Women on Saturday.
The objective of the week-long campaign is to generate awareness among rural women about their land rights guaranteed by law besides celebrating the achievements of women in bringing social changes. Hundreds of rural women are being oriented on land rights under the campaign.

Launched by Landesa, a global non-profit organisation working for land rights of the poor, in partnership with PRADAN, another organisation that works towards strengthening women SHGs, the campaign would cover Mayurbhanj, Kandhamal and Rayagada districts.

State director of Landesa Sibabrata Choudhury said the campaign would educate rural women about their land rights, benefits of owning land, productive use of land for their livelihood besides improving family’s food basket. ‘’There is an effort to include women in the State’s land allocation and livelihood support schemes and programmes,’’ he said. A series of training and orientation programmes will be organised in villages where rural SHG leaders would play role of facilitators.
