SUM Hospital fire: 19 patients confirmed dead; 106 injured

BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha Government on Tuesday put the death toll in the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital fire mishap at 19.

Health Secretary Arti Ahuja who visited the hospital in the morning hours confirmed the toll. Fourteen bodies were brought dead at Capital Hospital where AMRI Hospital received five.There has been no more death reported from any other hospital in connection with the fire mishap.

Police Commissioner of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack YB Khurania said, nine of the deceased were women.

"Post mortem of the deceased have been completed and bodies have been handed over to the kin of the victims," he informed.

Ahuja said, arrangements have been made to help the kin of the victims take back the bodies in ambulances.

With an RDC inquiry ordered into the fire mishap, the medicine ICU, dialysis ward of SUM Hospital have been sealed. Armed policemen have also been deployed to keep an eye on the situation.

As many as 106 patients who were injured in the fire are receiving treatment at various hospitals of the City.
