Vigilance raid on crorepati clerk in Odisha

BALANGIR: Sambalpur Vigilance sleuths on Wednesday swooped down on the establishments of senior clerk Ananta Narayan Panigrahi of Divisional Forest Office, Balangir on allegations of acquisition and possession of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The Vigilance officials searched his three-storey building in Chandrasekhar Nagar in Balangir town, his office, house in his native village at Kartang under Binka police limits in Sonepur district and house of his brother Siba Prasad Panigrahi in Sonepur town simultaneously. During search, huge quantity of movable and immovable assets found in possession of Panigrahi and his family members.

His immovable assets include a three-storey building at Chandrasekharpur Nagar valued at J25,00,000. Movable assets comprise costly household articles, furniture, electrical/electronic gadgets, gold and silver ornaments and one motorcycle estimated at J5,87,000, insurance deposits to a tune of J1,08,70,539 and cash of J1,54,000. The total movable and immovable assets detected has been calculated at J1,41,11,539. Panigrahi has a locker in Bank of India, Balangir and estimate is likely to go up after it is scrutinised.
