Newborn girl in Jajpur district given for adoption, not sold: Odisha CWC

JAIPUR: Another case of child sale has got the Jajpur district administration into a jam. While the veracity of the child sale is being probed into, the attempt to suppress the transfer of the newborn to a childless couple has thrown up many questions.

Lata and Baikuntha Rana of Ranpur village of Binjharpur police limits allegedly sold their fourth child, a girl, for Rs. 6000 with the help of an ASHA worker to the childless couple of the same village. However, the biological parents who were returned their child at the intervention of the Child Welfare Committee(CWC) sent to probe the matter, said they were not in a position to raise another child and, therefore, had given their daughter for adoption.
