DEOGARH:An ailing adult tusker, which was undergoing treatment at Asurkhol village under Pravasuni Reserve Forest in the district since Wednesday, died on Saturday. The tusker was found in a ‘nullah’ near the village on Wednesday. Forest officials, led by Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Deogarh, Kartik Chandra Samantray, along with Additional District Veterinary Officer (ADVO), Deogarh, Alok Kumar Dash, had rescued the ailing elephant and started its treatment. The elephant was suffering from fever and had stopped taking food which resulted in weakness. There was wound above the left eye.
On Friday, a team of doctors from Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT), Bhubaneswar had reached the spot to treat the pachyderm. DFO Kartik Chandra Samantray said the reason behind the death could be ascertained after the postmortem report is received.
