BMC notice on slum housing in a week

BHUBANESWAR: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to publish the draft notification on Mahisakhal and Patharbandh housing project within a week. In a Corporation meeting held here on Monday, Municipal Commissioner Dr Krishan Kumar said a notification will be issued for the proposed 120 flats for Patharbandh and 80 flats for Mahisakhal slums.

To educate corporators about the beneficiary selection process, the City Level Technical Cell and State Level Technical Cell will convene a meeting in a couple of days. The financial contribution of eligible beneficiaries for purchase and regulation for distribution of houses will also be taken up at the meeting, sources said.

The draft proposal will be submitted to the Housing and Urban Development Department which will take the final call on distribution of low-cost houses.

In the meeting, it was decided that the BMC will spend `5 lakh in each Municipal Ward for repairing potholes and construction of concrete drain slabs. Mayor AN Jena has instructed corporators and officials to prioritise areas surrounding Puja Pandals for repair work.

To ensure cleanliness and hygiene, a sanitation drive will be carried out till Dussera. The drive will be coordinated by Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan Cell of BMC and Zonal Deputy Commissioners will supervise it. The Engineering wing of the civic body was directed to complete maintenance of faulty street lights on a war-footing.
