BHUBANESWAR: Even as food safety officials of Kolkata and Kochi rubbished the allegations of availability of plastic eggs in their cities, the Odisha Government on Friday ordered an investigation to find out whether such fake eggs are being sold in the State.

Minister for Health and Family Welfare Pradip Amat has directed the Food Safety Commissioner to conduct an inquiry and send suspicious quality eggs to the State Public Health Library at the Capital City for its quality testing.

Following the direction, Commissioner of Food Safety RP Singh has shot off letters to all food safety officers, additional district medical officers (Public Health) of 30 districts and city health officers of Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur, Rourkela, Sambalpur and Puri asking them to keep a close watch and collect samples.

The officials have been instructed to send samples, if found, to the public health laboratory for quality testing as per Food Safety and Standards Act and rules. Earlier, it was alleged that plastic eggs were being traded in Bhubaneswar.
