Central team probes fund misuse in Mahanga block.

The Central team observed gross irregularities in utilisation of fund to the tune of Rs. 8 lakh and Rs. 37 lakh lying unutilised in Barahipur gram panchayat.

CUTTACK: A four-member Central team on Wednesday inquired into the alleged irregularities in implementation of various developmental and welfare programmes sanctioned under 14th Finance Commission in Mahanga block.

The team comprising of MC Chand, Amar Nayak, Madhuri Mishra and Ambuja Mahaptra from the Panchayati Raj and Ministry of Rural Development, visited Barahipur and Umar gram panchayats where they inspected the developmental and welfare programmes implemented with 14th Finance Commission funds.

The Central team observed gross irregularities in utilisation of fund to the tune of `8 lakh and `37 lakh lying unutilised in Barahipur gram panchayat.They also expressed dissatisfaction over the two incomplete projects, including construction of local school boundary wall and a dress changing shed at the bathing ghat in Deobario village under Barahipur gram panchayat.

Barahipur Sarpanch Kishore Kumar Rout claimed that he did not have the support of block officials in utilisation of funds.In Umar gram panchayat, the team inspected construction of a building for Anganwadi centre and a shed for cremation and interacted with the locals.

“We will hold a discussion with Project Director of District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), Cuttack  Collector and the departmental secretary concerned before submitting a report to the Centre, said Ambuja Mahapatra, a member of the team.
